Full job description
This position is listed on behalf of a partner company, who manages all applications and next steps. Our partner is looking for a Vice President of Business Development based in the United States. Lead commercial growth at the intersection of artificial intelligence, medical imaging, and oncology clinical development. As Vice President of Business Development, you will drive strategic partnerships with leading biopharmaceutical companies while expanding relationships with established pharmaceutical organizations and emerging biotechnology innovators. You will own the complete sales cycle, from prospecting and executive networking to contract negotiation and account expansion. Working closely with scientific, product, and executive leadership, you will translate advanced AI capabilities and clinical evidence into compelling commercial opportunities. Initially operating as a hands-on individual contributor, you will also establish the processes, tools, and infrastructure needed to support future sales team growth. This is an opportunity to influence drug development decisions and help promising cancer treatments reach patients sooner.
As the commercial leader for business development, you will combine strategic account management, hands-on enterprise selling, and commercial operations development. You will strengthen existing partnerships, establish new relationships across the biopharmaceutical industry, and build a scalable foundation for long-term revenue growth. Own the full sales cycle independently, including prospecting, outreach, relationship development, negotiations, contract execution, and account expansion across large pharmaceutical companies and oncology-focused biotechnology organizations. Manage and grow existing relationships with leading biopharmaceutical customers, strengthening executive engagement and expanding adoption across accounts. Identify and develop new business opportunities with large, mid-market, and emerging biotech companies conducting Phase I–III oncology clinical trials. Represent the organization at major industry conferences, including ASCO, ESMO, and AACR, building relationships with decision-makers in oncology clinical development, medical affairs, biostatistics, and translational medicine. Translate evolving product capabilities, scientific evidence, and AI-driven insights into tailored commercial narratives that address each customer's clinical trial stage, data strategy, and development objectives. Establish and maintain commercial infrastructure, including CRM processes, pipeline tracking, outreach workflows, and forecasting practices, to support a scalable business development function. Leverage AI-assisted tools to improve prospecting efficiency, pipeline visibility, sales execution, and forecasting accuracy. Collaborate closely with scientific and product leadership to align commercial positioning with evidence generation, product capabilities, and the product roadmap. Help shape the long-term commercial strategy and build the foundations for a future sales organization, with potential opportunities to recruit and manage business development professionals as the company scales. Requirements: You are an entrepreneurial commercial leader with a strong track record in life sciences business development and a deep understanding of oncology clinical development. You can operate independently in an early-stage commercial environment, engage senior pharmaceutical executives, and communicate the value of innovative, data-driven technologies supported by an evolving evidence base. Demonstrated success selling data-driven or precision medicine products into biopharmaceutical oncology clinical development. Experience commercializing AI/ML tools, real-world evidence (RWE) solutions, circulating tumor DNA or minimal residual disease (ctDNA/MRD) technologies, biomarkers, or related life sciences products. Previous experience as the first or an early business development leader at a life sciences tools company, with the ability to build commercial processes and functions from the ground up. Deep understanding of oncology clinical development, including clinical trial design, endpoints, and the stakeholder landscape within pharmaceutical organizations. Proven ability to independently manage complex sales cycles, develop a pipeline, negotiate contracts, and close commercial agreements without relying on an established sales team. Strong executive presence and demonstrated success building relationships with vice presidents and C-suite decision-makers at large pharmaceutical companies. Experience with consultative selling, particularly for innovative products with differentiated capabilities and a developing evidence base. Excellent communication, negotiation, relationship-building, and commercial strategy skills. Based in the United States or Canada. Preferred Qualifications: An established professional network in oncology clinical development and translational medicine at leading global pharmaceutical companies. Working knowledge of medical imaging, biostatistics, computer vision, artificial intelligence, or related technical disciplines. Experience scaling a business development team, including hiring and managing individual-contributor sales professionals. Familiarity with modern AI-assisted sales tools and commercial productivity platforms. Benefits: Annual compensation ranging from $250,000 to $350,000 USD, depending on experience and qualifications. Generous equity participation. Medical, dental, and vision insurance coverage. Four weeks of vacation per year. Flexible work organization and remote work options. Opportunity to shape commercial strategy and build a scalable business development function. Meaningful work at the intersection of AI, medical imaging, and oncology, helping accelerate clinical development and improve the path toward effective treatments for patients.
