Full job description

This position is listed on behalf of a partner company, who manages all applications and next steps. Our partner is looking for a Workday Compensation Manager based in Canada. Take on a critical role in the final stages of a Workday Compensation implementation supporting complex shipboard workforce operations. As a hands-on compensation leader, you will oversee testing, validate system configurations, and help ensure a successful go-live targeted for January 1. You will work with intricate compensation structures involving union agreements, job-specific pay rates, allowances, bonuses, and collective bargaining requirements. Collaborating closely with HR, HRIS, HR Technology, Compensation teams, and systems integration partners, you will identify defects and drive their timely resolution. You will also provide practical leadership to contractors and potentially one or two direct reports. This opportunity is ideal for an experienced Workday professional who combines strong technical implementation expertise with a solid HR background and a deep understanding of unionized compensation.

As a Workday Compensation Manager, you will lead final-stage testing and implementation activities to ensure accurate compensation calculations, reliable system integrations, and operational readiness for go-live. Lead final integration testing and validation between Workday Compensation and the MAPS crew management and scheduling system. Review and validate Workday Compensation configurations to ensure alignment with business requirements and complex shipboard compensation policies. Verify compensation rules, union requirements, collective bargaining agreements (CBAs), pay rates, allowances, bonuses, and other compensation elements. Identify configuration defects, integration failures, and compensation discrepancies, coordinating corrective actions with the systems integrator (SI). Drive the systems integrator to resolve issues quickly and maintain progress toward implementation milestones. Support testing cycles, defect tracking, validation activities, and go-live readiness for the planned January 1 launch. Partner with HR, HRIS, HR Technology, and Compensation teams to ensure compensation configurations accurately reflect operational and contractual requirements. Provide hands-on leadership and guidance to contractors and potentially one or two direct reports. Coordinate stakeholders and communicate implementation risks, testing outcomes, and outstanding issues clearly. Support the transition to a stable compensation solution for shipboard employees while maintaining a strong focus on accuracy and compliance. Requirements: The ideal candidate is an experienced Workday Compensation professional with implementation expertise, a strong HR or HRIS background, and a proven ability to manage complex compensation configurations and integrations. Experience with unionized workforces and collective bargaining agreements is particularly important. Demonstrated experience as a Workday Compensation Manager or in a comparable senior Workday Compensation implementation role. Hands-on experience implementing Workday Compensation, including configuration, testing, validation, and deployment readiness. Strong understanding of unionized compensation structures, collective bargaining agreements, and contractual pay requirements. Experience validating compensation rules, pay rates, allowances, bonuses, and other complex compensation elements. Proven ability to lead integration testing, identify defects, and coordinate resolution with systems integrators. Background in HR, HRIS, or HR Technology, with experience working closely with Compensation teams. Ability to translate HR and compensation requirements into accurate system configurations and test scenarios. Experience managing implementation activities, coordinating stakeholders, and driving urgent issues to resolution. Leadership experience supporting contractors or managing a small team. Strong analytical, organizational, communication, and problem-solving skills. Ability to work effectively with distributed teams and stakeholders in U.S. Eastern Time (EST/ET) working hours. Preferred Qualifications: Experience supporting shipboard, maritime, cruise, or similarly complex workforce compensation programs. Previous experience implementing or managing compensation systems for unionized U.S. workforces. Familiarity with MAPS or comparable crew management and scheduling systems. International payroll experience, particularly across multiple countries. Experience working directly with systems integrators during complex HR technology implementations. Benefits: Remote work arrangement. Contract-to-hire opportunity, with an anticipated four-month contract period before potential conversion to permanent employment. Opportunity to lead critical implementation and testing activities for a complex Workday Compensation program. Exposure to advanced HR technology, compensation configuration, and systems integration work.
