Full job description

This position is listed on behalf of a partner company, which manages all applications and next steps. Our partner is looking for a Workday Payroll/HCM Consultant | Workday Certified based in the United States. The Workday Payroll/HCM Consultant will play a key role in delivering a large-scale Workday implementation within a complex public-sector environment. This engagement supports a major university system transitioning from a highly customized PeopleSoft platform to Workday. You will leverage your expertise in Payroll and Core HCM to translate business requirements into effective, scalable Workday solutions. Working closely with functional and technical teams, you will contribute to solution design, tenant configuration, testing, and issue resolution. The role offers hands-on involvement in critical implementation deliverables, including configuration workbooks, user stories, business process documentation, and defect management. You will help streamline legacy processes, improve operational efficiency, and ensure that Workday functionality aligns with organizational needs. This is a fully remote consulting opportunity with limited travel to the client site in New York, offering exposure to a sophisticated implementation project and opportunities to expand your consulting expertise.

Support the design, solutioning, configuration, and implementation of Workday Payroll and Core HCM, with additional support for Compensation as required. Collaborate with the Payroll/HCM Lead and implementation team to translate business requirements into functional Workday solutions that meet client objectives. Participate in client meetings, requirements-gathering workshops, and working sessions to establish configuration decisions and align stakeholders. Contribute to Workday tenant build activities, configure business processes, and support the implementation of agreed-upon solutions. Develop, maintain, and refine user stories, configuration workbooks, business process workbooks, design documents, and decision logs. Update Gap Definition Documents and maintain RAID documentation covering project risks, assumptions, issues, and dependencies as the implementation progresses. Identify, document, analyze, and help resolve configuration issues, testing defects, and other implementation challenges. Support testing activities, investigate functional issues, and coordinate defect resolution with relevant functional and technical teams. Assess downstream impacts and integration touchpoints associated with Payroll and HCM configuration to ensure alignment across the broader Workday ecosystem. Identify opportunities to optimize business processes, maximize standard Workday functionality, and reduce reliance on manual procedures or heavily customized legacy systems. Provide knowledge transfer, functional guidance, and implementation support to client stakeholders and project team members throughout the engagement. Requirements Active Workday Payroll Certification and active Workday Core HCM Certification are mandatory. Hands-on experience supporting Workday Payroll and Core HCM implementations, including configuration, business process setup, and implementation documentation. Strong understanding of Payroll and Core HCM processes, with the ability to translate complex business requirements into practical Workday solutions. Experience contributing to tenant configuration, requirements gathering, solution design, testing, defect management, and implementation deliverables. Previous participation in a full-cycle Workday implementation is preferred. Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, with the ability to investigate functional issues, assess business requirements, and recommend effective solutions. Excellent client-facing communication and collaboration skills, including the ability to facilitate discussions, clarify requirements, document decisions, and work effectively with functional and technical teams. Strong organizational and time-management skills, with the ability to manage multiple priorities and deliverables within a complex implementation environment. A Workday Compensation Certification is an advantage. Experience supporting a PeopleSoft-to-Workday migration is preferred, particularly in a large or highly customized legacy environment. Experience in higher education, state government, or other State, Local, and Education (SLED) environments is highly desirable. Familiarity with complex, multi-entity or multi-organization structures, as well as Workday configuration and business process documentation, is beneficial. Candidates must be U.S. citizens or Green Card holders and must be able to pass the client's required background check. Benefits Competitive compensation: Attractive pay aligned with your experience and consulting expertise. Long-term project opportunities: Access to multi-year engagements and challenging projects with established clients. Fully remote work: Work remotely from within the United States, with limited travel to the client site in New York. Work-life balance: A consulting environment that values productivity while supporting personal and family commitments. Professional development: Opportunities to strengthen your Workday Payroll and HCM expertise through hands-on participation in a large-scale implementation. Career growth: Exposure to complex public-sector requirements, enterprise system transformation, and cross-functional implementation practices. Consultant support: Ongoing professional guidance and support to help you achieve your career goals throughout your engagement. Integrity and trust: A professional environment built around respectful relationships, transparent communication, and a commitment to consultant well-being. Referral program: Potential referral rewards for recommending qualified professionals who are successfully placed in eligible positions.
