Basseterre: St. Kitts, Friday, October 09, 2026: Young speakers from eight primary schools displayed their public-speaking skills at the 2026 Independence Primary Schools’ Elocution Competition Finals, held on Thursday, October 8, at the Immaculate Conception Catholic Church Auditorium.

Guided by the 43rd Independence Day theme, “One People, One Vision, Endless Possibility: Independence 43”. Each participant delivered an excerpt from the musical catalogue of the late Elston “King Ellie Matt” Nero, entitled “The Same.” The competition provided students with an opportunity to demonstrate their ability to speak clearly, confidently, and expressively before an audience.

At the conclusion of the competition, SKI Academy emerged as the overall winner with 45.67 points, narrowly beating Seventh Day Adventist Primary School, which secured second place with 45.41 points. Halliday-Smith Primary School placed third with 41.75 points. The winners were presented with trophies in recognition of their outstanding performances. The other participating schools were Doctor William Connor Primary School, Connor-Gumbs Primary School, Violet Petty Primary School, Saddlers Primary School, Tyrrel Williams Primary School.

The competition highlighted the importance of nurturing communication skills and self-confidence from an early age. While encouraging them to express their ideas, speak before an audience, and appreciate the power of the spoken word.
