The grant supports inclusive, broad-based public engagement with science, technology, engineering and mathematics. Eligible formats include public in-person events and interactive online activities such as workshops, fairs, debates, open days, citizen-science activities, public talks, panels and virtual events with two-way participation. Up to $500,000 is available for the 2027 round overall, with individual grants between $5,000 and $20,000. Eligible expenditure can include venue and equipment hire, presenter salaries, consumables, event promotion, accessibility and translation support, and travel or accommodation directly related to the project.

Applicants may be individuals aged 18 or older or eligible entities with an Australian Business Number (ABN), subject to the published exclusions and grant guidelines. Projects must be located in Australia, be science-related and available to the wider public, and be delivered during National Science Week 2027 or, where appropriate, in the week immediately before or after it.
