Australian Veterans' Children Assistance Trust (AVCAT) Opportunities

Applications for the 2027 round opened on 18 August 2026. AVCAT administers Long Tan Bursaries funded by Australia's Department of Veterans' Affairs for eligible descendants of Vietnam veterans, together with sponsored scholarships for children and grandchildren of ex-serving veterans. Awards are generally A$4,000–A$6,000 per year for up to three years. AVCAT assesses applicants competitively using factors including financial need, academic potential and personal circumstances, and one application is used to consider an applicant for the awards for which they are eligible.

Applicants need Australian residency status, must be a child or grandchild of an eligible Australian ex-serving veteran, and must be planning to enrol or already enrolled full-time in an Australian Qualifications Framework tertiary course at an Australian university, TAFE or registered training organisation. Long Tan Bursaries and individual sponsored scholarships have additional service-history, financial-need or award-specific criteria.
