Lerotholi Polytechnic engaged its Bricklaying and Plastering students to reconstruct 800 meters long road in November 2019. The road extends from the LP main gate to Administration building. June 30th 2020 was marked as an official opening of the road. The event was graced by the presence of the LP Governing Council Chairperson.

In his welcome remarks, LP Rector appreciated the LP decision to disregard contractor’s costly quotation which rounded about M1,3 million. That called for an engagement of LP Bricklaying and Plastering students. The students did a very good job at M220 000.

He mentioned that the students did other jobs within and outside LP.Gratitude was also extended to staff members who never complained about financial hurdles in completing the duty.

Mr Motlatsi Maseela, the lecturer in charge, talked on behalf of all instructors who participated. He indicated that despite the challenges incurred during the construction process, they managed to complete. He pleaded with the LP Governing Council that SOBE-Crafts students be given such opportunities for industrial attachment. A student representing those who worked on the road,’Matli’ Matli, thanked the LP management for the opportunity given to students to work on the road. Amongst other challenges, rain affected the process, however, this equipped them with tips on how to tackle such when they get to the industry.

Mr Molebatsi Ntja, chairperson of LP Governing Council commended the reconstruction of the road. He indicated that the road is a strategy to implement all the LP strategic plans. He further Urged the Lesotho contractors to hire the LP students who will take care of the potholed roads of Lesotho. Given a chance, he would name the road “Lerotholi Avenue”. He urged the Minister of Education to consider granting LP students a chance to work in the country for industrial attachment. Mr Ntja then declared the avenue open. A monument was unveiled and he read through a list of names of all who took part in the reconstruction of the avenue.
