Opportunities from Boehringer Ingelheim Fonds

The Boehringer Ingelheim Fonds (BIF) PhD fellowship supports ambitious experimental basic biomedical PhD projects. Fellowships are initially granted for 2 years and may be extended once for up to 1.5 years. BIF provides a competitive monthly stipend, country-dependent premiums and travel allowances for scientific conferences. Current examples of total monthly payments include €2,400 in Germany, €2,900 in the Netherlands and United Kingdom, US-equivalent country rates as published by BIF, and other country-specific amounts. The application portal is currently closed and BIF states it will open one month before the next deadline.

European citizens may pursue their PhD in Europe or overseas. Non-European citizens must pursue their PhD project in Europe. Projects must be experimental basic biomedical research aimed at understanding fundamental biological phenomena. Applicants must also meet BIF’s degree/timing requirements at the deadline and submit the required proposal, supporting documents and two recommendation letters.
