Opportunities from Okinawa Institute of Science and Technology Graduate School

The Okinawa Institute of Science and Technology Graduate University is accepting applications for its 2027 Admissions Workshop round. The application deadline is 15 November 2026 at 23:59 Japan Standard Time. Shortlisted applicants participate in an online admissions workshop in January–February 2027, with successful candidates able to enroll on 1 May 2027, 1 September 2027 or 1 January 2028. OIST's five-year PhD is interdisciplinary and includes research rotations before thesis research. OIST states that the PhD is fully funded for students of all nationalities. Current student-support information says first-year financial support is approximately JPY 2.6 million taxable and can increase with academic progress to approximately JPY 3.6 million, with tuition support included. The application fee is JPY 5,000.

Applicants of any nationality may apply if they hold a bachelor's, master's or equivalent degree, or expect to complete that degree before their OIST enrollment date. Applicants should identify research areas and faculty of interest, meet OIST's academic requirements, prepare all application materials in English and be available for the admissions workshop if shortlisted.
