Overview
Applications are open for the Australian National Internships Program's Semester 1 2027 intake, with placements scheduled from February to May 2027. The program combines an academic course with competitive internship placements across government, parliament, embassies, NGOs, think tanks, research centres and related host organisations.
Complete internship details
ANIP accepts eligible undergraduate and postgraduate students from any discipline. Applicants submit a two-page resume, academic transcript, an academic referee report and the ANIP application form. Entry is competitive and depends on application strength, academic merit and placement availability. International students outside Australia may also need to apply to ANU through the relevant admissions or mobility process.
Eligibility requirements
Applicants must be currently enrolled university students, have permission for the ANIP course to count toward their degree, and have completed or be on track to complete at least two full years of study (96 units or equivalent) by enrolment. Undergraduate and postgraduate students from ANU, other Australian universities and international universities may be eligible. Some Commonwealth Government, Parliament and ACT Legislative Assembly placements are restricted to Australian citizens, while placements with local government, embassies, NGOs, peak bodies, think tanks and research centres can be available to international and exchange students at ANU.
