Full job description

This position is listed on behalf of a partner company, which manages all applications and next steps. Our partner is looking for a Contract Litigation Attorney based in the United States. Bring your civil litigation expertise to a flexible, remote contract opportunity serving clients across the outdoor recreation, sports, hospitality, and resort industries. You will work directly with an established legal partner on a steady pipeline of sophisticated litigation and counseling matters, with an emphasis on complex liability, catastrophic injury, risk management, and employment disputes. This position offers an opportunity to take ownership of meaningful cases while maintaining greater control over your schedule. Designed for an experienced California-barred attorney, the role combines substantive legal work, client collaboration, and high-quality advocacy in a supportive, modern practice environment. The initial engagement runs for six to eight months, with an average commitment of 20–30 hours per week. For the right candidate, there is strong potential for the contract to transition into a full-time position.

Manage and support civil litigation matters involving complex commercial disputes, liability claims, catastrophic injuries, employment issues, and related legal concerns. Draft high-quality legal documents, including dispositive motions, substantive motions, pretrial filings, motions to compel, and other litigation submissions. Prepare meet-and-confer correspondence, assess opposing arguments, and develop effective litigation strategies to advance client interests. Conduct legal research and analysis to evaluate claims, identify relevant legal issues, and support case strategy and decision-making. Work directly with an experienced legal partner to coordinate case priorities, develop arguments, and deliver effective legal representation. Manage assigned matters with a high degree of independence, accountability, and sound professional judgment. Collaborate with clients to understand their business objectives, provide practical legal guidance, and address litigation risks. Support counseling and risk management matters for clients in the outdoor recreation, sports, hospitality, resort, and related industries. Monitor deadlines, manage case documentation, and ensure that litigation tasks and pretrial obligations are completed accurately and on time. Communicate clearly with clients, colleagues, opposing counsel, and other relevant parties throughout the litigation process. Contribute to maintaining strong client relationships through responsive service, thoughtful legal analysis, and consistent work quality. Requirements: Active license to practice law in California and current residence within California. At least seven years of civil litigation experience, ideally involving complex commercial litigation, liability disputes, catastrophic injury matters, or related cases. Strong legal research, analytical reasoning, and writing skills, with demonstrated experience drafting dispositive motions, substantive motions, and pretrial filings. Experience preparing motions to compel, meet-and-confer correspondence, and other documents used in civil litigation. Ability to independently manage legal matters, prioritize competing deadlines, and take ownership of case strategy and deliverables. Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, including the ability to work directly with clients and collaborate effectively with legal colleagues. Sound judgment, attention to detail, and a practical approach to resolving complex legal issues. Ability to work remotely while maintaining responsiveness, organization, confidentiality, and high professional standards. Interest in representing businesses operating in outdoor recreation, sports, hospitality, resorts, equipment manufacturing, retail, or related sectors. Adaptability and a collaborative mindset, with an interest in contributing to a modern legal practice that values flexibility, autonomy, and high-quality client service. Benefits: Contract duration: Initial term of six to eight months. Work schedule: Reduced-hours engagement averaging 20–30 hours per week. Remote flexibility: Work remotely from anywhere within California. Potential for full-time employment: Strong possibility of transitioning to a full-time opportunity following the initial contract term. Established workflow: Access to existing client matters and an anticipated steady pipeline of legal work. Direct partner collaboration: Work closely with an experienced legal partner and contribute to meaningful client relationships. Diverse legal matters: Exposure to sophisticated litigation and counseling work across outdoor recreation, sports, hospitality, and resort industries. Greater schedule flexibility: An opportunity to return to legal practice or maintain a reduced-hours workload while continuing to handle high-quality matters. Collaborative environment: Work with a national legal team in a practice model designed to reduce traditional law firm overhead and bureaucracy. Professional growth: An opportunity to experience a modern legal practice and explore a potential longer-term career path. Equal opportunity workplace: Commitment to diversity, inclusion, and equitable consideration throughout the hiring process.
