Full job description

This position is listed on behalf of a partner company, who manages all applications and next steps. Our partner is looking for a Director, Institutional Investor Relations based in Canada. As Director, Institutional Investor Relations, you will play a pivotal role in expanding the firm's institutional investor network and driving capital formation across Canada. You will develop and execute fundraising strategies targeting pension funds, university endowments, foundations, and other sophisticated institutional investors. Working closely with senior leadership and investment professionals, you will leverage established relationships and cultivate new partnerships to secure commitments for private market funds and select investment vehicles. You will manage the entire fundraising lifecycle, from prospecting and investor engagement to due diligence, negotiations, and closing. This senior individual contributor role offers significant autonomy, strategic influence, and the opportunity to represent differentiated late-stage private technology investment opportunities. If you bring deep institutional market knowledge, a strong Canadian investor network, and a proven record of fundraising success, this is an opportunity to make a substantial impact in a dynamic alternative investment environment.

Develop and execute a comprehensive Canadian institutional fundraising strategy targeting pension plans, university endowments, foundations, investment consultants, outsourced chief investment officers (OCIOs), and other institutional allocators. Lead capital formation initiatives for private market funds and, where appropriate, special purpose vehicles (SPVs), driving commitments from qualified institutional investors. Leverage existing industry relationships while proactively identifying, cultivating, and developing new connections with chief investment officers, investment directors, portfolio managers, consultants, and other key decision-makers. Manage the full fundraising lifecycle, from prospect identification and relationship development through investor presentations, due diligence, institutional approval processes, negotiations, and final commitments. Build, maintain, and advance a qualified institutional investor pipeline, ensuring disciplined prospect management, accurate forecasting, and consistent progress toward fundraising objectives. Develop long-term investor relationships by understanding portfolio objectives, asset allocation strategies, risk tolerance, liquidity requirements, and investment mandates. Present investment opportunities, fund strategies, portfolio performance, and relevant market insights to institutional audiences, communicating complex investment concepts clearly and persuasively. Coordinate responses to requests for proposals (RFPs), requests for information (RFIs), due diligence questionnaires (DDQs), and institutional investment committee requirements. Collaborate with internal investment, operations, and other relevant teams to coordinate investment and operational due diligence, prepare documentation, and facilitate investor onboarding. Represent the firm at institutional investment conferences, industry events, and networking opportunities to strengthen market visibility and develop new relationships. Provide market intelligence, competitive analysis, and investor feedback to senior leadership to inform fundraising priorities, product development, and positioning within the Canadian institutional investment market. Maintain accurate customer relationship management (CRM) records, fundraising reports, pipeline forecasts, and performance tracking, monitoring opportunities, diligence milestones, commitments, and results. Work independently while collaborating with senior executives and investment professionals to identify opportunities, overcome fundraising challenges, and achieve strategic growth objectives. Requirements: At least 7–10 years of experience in institutional capital raising, investor relations, sales, or business development within asset management, private markets, or alternative investments. Demonstrated success raising capital from Canadian institutional investors, including pension funds, university endowments, foundations, investment consultants, OCIOs, and other institutional allocators. An established network of relationships within the Canadian institutional investment community, with the credibility and expertise to engage senior investment decision-makers. Proven ability to independently originate investor relationships, develop new business opportunities, and manage complex fundraising cycles with extended decision-making and approval processes. Experience managing institutional RFPs, RFIs, DDQs, investment presentations, due diligence processes, and investment committee submissions. Strong understanding of private market fund structures, secondary investments, capital commitments, investor reporting, and institutional investment requirements. Excellent presentation, communication, negotiation, and relationship management skills, with the ability to build trust and maintain long-term partnerships with sophisticated investors. Strong analytical and commercial judgment, including the ability to assess investor needs, interpret market feedback, and translate fundraising insights into actionable strategies. Entrepreneurial mindset with a high degree of autonomy, initiative, accountability, and persistence in identifying and converting fundraising opportunities. Disciplined pipeline management skills, including CRM proficiency, opportunity tracking, forecasting, and performance reporting. Ability to communicate sophisticated investment strategies and differentiated private market opportunities clearly to institutional audiences. Relevant Canadian securities registration, professional qualifications, or designations such as the Chartered Financial Analyst (CFA) designation are considered assets. Willingness and ability to travel across Canada and occasionally internationally for investor meetings, conferences, and business development activities. Ability to successfully complete the applicable background screening process, which may include criminal record, credit, and other relevant checks. Benefits: Competitive annual base salary: CAD $225,000–$250,000 for 2026, depending on experience, qualifications, and geographic location. Performance-based incentive compensation offering additional earning potential linked to individual and business performance. Potential equity participation providing an opportunity to share in the firm's long-term growth. Comprehensive health and benefits package to support employee well-being. Remote work arrangement within Canada, offering flexibility in how work is organized. Direct collaboration with senior executives and investment professionals in an entrepreneurial, growth-oriented environment. Opportunity to build and shape a strategic institutional investor business across Canada. Exposure to differentiated late-stage private technology investment opportunities and the broader alternative investment market. Significant autonomy and ownership over fundraising strategy, investor relationships, and business development initiatives. Opportunity to expand a professional network across Canada's institutional investment community and contribute directly to organizational growth.
