This position is listed on behalf of a partner company, who manages all applications and next steps. Our partner is looking for a Editorial Director, Global Communications based in Canada. This is a senior global communications leadership role focused on increasing the reach, influence, and practical adoption of research, guidance, frameworks, and thought leadership. You will shape an integrated editorial and communications strategy spanning content, audience engagement, media relations, executive visibility, and external positioning. The role requires translating complex technical, policy, governance, and research topics into compelling narratives that resonate with diverse international audiences. You will work closely with executive leadership, research, policy, and partnership teams to connect communications priorities with major global policy and technology conversations. A major focus will be expanding international visibility across Canada, the UK, Europe, and future markets while strengthening relationships with media, policymakers, standards organizations, and industry leaders. You will lead and develop a communications team while overseeing editorial standards, messaging frameworks, dissemination strategies, and high-profile thought leadership opportunities. The position offers substantial global influence in the responsible AI ecosystem, with frequent international travel and engagement across industry, academia, civil society, and policy communities.
Lead the development and execution of an integrated global editorial and communications strategy designed to increase visibility, influence, engagement, and adoption of organizational research and outputs. Establish editorial standards, narrative frameworks, and audience-centered approaches that make complex technical, policy, and research content accessible and actionable. Provide editorial oversight for frameworks, recommendations, guidance documents, reports, and other technical outputs. Develop dissemination and audience engagement strategies in partnership with research, policy, partnership, and executive leadership teams. Create executive briefs, speeches, keynote materials, talking points, strategic messaging, press materials, and other external communications assets. Shape narratives connecting technical work to broader societal, governance, implementation, and policy challenges. Build international communications and media presence, with particular focus on Europe, the UK, Canada, and future markets including Asia Pacific and Africa. Develop messaging frameworks that position the organization as a leading international voice on responsible AI governance, implementation, and best practices. Identify emerging policy, regulatory, governance, and standards conversations where the organization can provide expertise and thought leadership. Oversee an integrated editorial and communications calendar aligned with policy moments, standards initiatives, conferences, and major publication launches. Build and maintain relationships with journalists, editors, conference organizers, policy influencers, and international media covering AI, technology policy, governance, and emerging technologies. Drive earned media opportunities including interviews, op-eds, feature stories, speaking engagements, podcasts, and executive thought leadership placements. Support executive visibility at major international conferences, summits, and multistakeholder convenings. Manage external PR agencies and communications partners when appropriate, including strategic planning, media coordination, and campaign execution. Develop rapid-response communications strategies around emerging AI policy developments, governance debates, and major industry announcements. Lead the communications team, including direct management of senior communications and digital leadership, while aligning editorial strategy, audience growth, digital engagement, and organizational priorities. Monitor media trends and use audience insights and performance metrics to identify opportunities and strengthen communications impact. Requirements: 10+ years of experience in editorial leadership, strategic communications, journalism, public affairs, or policy communications, including at least 5 years leading teams. Exceptional editorial judgment and proven ability to translate complex research, technical, governance, or policy topics into compelling narratives for diverse audiences. Demonstrated success developing communications and dissemination strategies that increase the visibility, influence, and adoption of research, frameworks, recommendations, or thought leadership. Experience engaging global stakeholder groups, including policymakers, regulators, standards organizations, industry leaders, researchers, civil society organizations, and media. Strong background in earned media, executive communications, thought leadership, and relationship-building with journalists, editors, conference organizers, and other influential stakeholders. Familiarity with international policy, governance, standards development, or regulatory environments. Experience in AI, technology policy, digital governance, or emerging technologies is strongly preferred. Demonstrated ability to lead cross-functional initiatives, manage competing priorities, and use audience insights and performance metrics to improve communications outcomes. Strategic and globally minded communicator with strong editorial instincts and the ability to operate confidently in high-profile external settings. Excellent relationship-building, collaboration, adaptability, and stakeholder management skills. Strong ability to communicate complex ideas in accessible, persuasive, and audience-appropriate ways. Passion for responsible AI, international governance, and the societal implications of emerging technologies. Willingness and ability to undertake frequent international travel for conferences, convenings, standards meetings, and stakeholder engagement. Candidates must be authorized to work in Canada; visa sponsorship is not available. Benefits: Annual compensation of C$165,000–C$190,000 for Canada-based employees.
