Full job description

About Acron Aviation (Avionics – Surveillance): Acron Aviation designs, engineers, and manufactures certified avionics systems that support safety-critical flight operations across commercial and military aviation. Within Avionics, the Surveillance product line develops and sustains systems that enable aircraft awareness, collision avoidance, and airspace interoperability. Our portfolio includes TCAS, Mode S transponders, ADS-B, and integrated surveillance solutions deployed across commercial, military, and rotorcraft platforms. This work is performed in highly regulated environments and demands deep expertise across systems, hardware, software, and RF throughout the full product lifecycle.

As an Embedded Software Lead Engineer, you will serve as the primary software subject matter expert for Acron Aviation's Lynx surveillance product family. This role is focused on technical leadership, product knowledge, and software lifecycle ownership rather than direct people management. You will provide guidance and oversight for software development, integration, verification, certification, sustainment, and customer support activities while helping preserve and expand critical Lynx product knowledge within the organization.

The successful candidate will work closely with Systems Engineering, Hardware Engineering, Verification, Program Management, and customer-facing teams to ensure the continued success and evolution of Lynx products and related surveillance technologies.

Serve as the primary software technical authority for Lynx surveillance products and associated software architectures. Lead technical investigations, root cause analysis, and resolution of complex software defects and field issues. Support software architecture, design, implementation, integration, and verification activities for product enhancements and sustainment efforts. Evaluate technical impacts of hardware changes, system modifications, regulatory requirements, and customer requests. Provide guidance and review for software requirements, design artifacts, source code, test procedures, and verification evidence. Support certification, compliance, and audit activities associated with airborne software development. Collaborate with domestic and offshore software development teams to ensure consistent technical direction and execution. Develop and maintain deep product knowledge spanning software, system behavior, interfaces, and operational concepts. Support proposal activities, cost estimates, technical risk assessments, and strategic product planning initiatives. Mentor software engineers and assist in transferring product knowledge across the engineering organization. Act as the primary software interface for technical discussions involving customers, suppliers, certification authorities, and internal stakeholders. Drive continuous improvement of software development, verification, and sustainment processes.

Bachelor's degree in Software Engineering, Computer Engineering, Computer Science, Electrical Engineering, or related field. Significant experience developing embedded software using C/C++. Experience supporting complex real-time embedded systems. Strong software architecture, debugging, and problem-solving skills. Experience working across the full software development lifecycle. Ability to communicate complex technical concepts to both engineering and non-engineering stakeholders. Experience leading technical efforts and influencing engineering direction without formal supervisory authority.

Experience with avionics, surveillance systems, TCAS, ADS-B, transponders, or related aerospace products. Working knowledge of DO-178C software development processes. Experience supporting certified airborne software. Familiarity with requirements management, software verification, configuration management, and change control processes. Experience supporting product sustainment and fielded systems. Previous experience serving as a technical lead, software architect, or product focal.
