The Honjo International Scholarship Foundation is accepting direct applications from international students studying or admitted to master's or doctoral programs at Japanese graduate schools for support beginning in 2027.
Complete scholarship details
Applications are open from 1 September through 31 October 2026. Approximately 10 scholarships are available. Monthly support is JPY 230,000 for degree periods of one to two years, JPY 210,000 for three-year degrees, and JPY 180,000 for degree periods beyond three years, paid for the minimum period required to complete the degree.
Eligibility requirements
Applicants must be non-Japanese students studying or planning to study for a master's or doctoral degree at a Japanese graduate school. Applicants may apply from outside Japan if already accepted to a Japanese graduate school; all nationalities and research fields are eligible subject to the foundation's current 2027 rules.
