Full job description
ABOUT US: Fireworks is the platform for specialized intelligence, enabling companies to build, train, and serve AI models tailored to their own data, workflows, and products. Founded by the team behind PyTorch and backed by AMD, Atreides, Benchmark Capital, Index Ventures, Lightspeed, NVIDIA, Sequoia Capital, and TCV, Fireworks powers production AI with hundreds of state-of-the-art open models across text, image, embedding, audio, and multimodal workloads. Today, Fireworks is a Series D company valued at $17.5 billion, bringing together an ambitious, collaborative team that's building the future of enterprise AI. THE ROLE We're building a new Product-Led Growth (PLG) team, and we're looking for a creative, high-agency product engineer to be one of its first engineers. You'll build Fireworks' growth platform: the systems and experiences that take a developer from first visit, to first successful API call, to a long-term, expanding customer. There's an early roadmap ready, but the market moves quickly, and you'll be expected to help diagnose customer problems, ideate on solutions, and experiment to find what works. The surface area includes signup, onboarding, docs, the API and playground, model choice, errors, pricing, billing, and lifecycle messaging, across inference, training, and the rest of the platform. Some of what's on the table:
- Acquisition to product. Connect how developers discover Fireworks to what they do once they arrive, so every first experience feels built for them.
- Activation and onboarding. Cut time to first working request. Useful errors, docs that match the product, the right default model, and a reason to come back.
- Experimentation. Build the tools and habits that let the whole company test ideas fast and learn from them.
- Trust at scale. Make getting started effortless while keeping the platform safe and reliable for everyone.
- Monetization and expansion. Help developers grow with Fireworks, from first project to production scale. WHAT YOU'LL DO
- Own developer outcomes end to end: find the problem, shape the solution, prototype, ship to production, instrument, and learn from the results.
- Build the growth foundations the team doesn't have yet: event tracking, funnels, an experimentation framework, and lifecycle messaging.
- Design and run experiments with rigor (clear hypotheses, the right metrics, honest readouts), and know when to ship an obvious win without a test.
- Talk to developers directly. Watch them build, see where the first call fails, and bring that back as working code.
- Craft polished, fast, accessible experiences on our marketing site and in the product.
- Dig into funnel and cohort data to find the next bet, and communicate what you find clearly.
- Work closely with product, design, marketing, data, and sales, so self-serve growth works alongside our sales-led motion.
- Use AI coding tools to move quickly, while owning the quality of everything you ship. WHAT WE'RE LOOKING FOR
- 5+ years building and shipping user-facing products, including real time on product or growth surfaces as a senior, staff, or founding engineer.
- A track record of moving business metrics. You can point to specific numbers you changed and how.
- Strong full-stack skills: TypeScript/React on the front end, plus backend services (Go a plus), APIs, data models, and SQL.
- A product engineer mindset. You define the problem and the solution, not just the implementation.
- A designer's eye. You care about interaction details, copy, and how a flow feels, and you can make a technical product feel simple.
- Hands-on experience with A/B testing, funnel analysis, and product analytics.
- Genuine high agency. You've started things nobody asked you to, pushed them through without a mandate, and owned the result when it didn't work.
- A bias toward action. You ship in days, not quarters, and you'd rather pick the right problem than wait to be assigned one.
- Comfort in ambiguity, and the ability to lead without authority across product, design, marketing, and data.
- Clear written and verbal communication with engineers and non-engineers.
- A Bachelor's or Master's degree in CS, EE, or equivalent experience. NICE TO HAVE
- Growth, activation, or monetization experience at a developer-tools, API, or infra company.
- Experience building developer-facing products (APIs, SDKs, dev tools, consoles).
- Experience with consumption or usage-based pricing and billing.
- Experience building PLG or self-serve inside a company that also sells top-down.
- Experience with trust & safety or identity systems.
- You've built with LLM APIs and have opinions on what great developer onboarding for AI looks like.
- A portfolio, side projects, or launches that show your taste and range. Non-traditional paths welcome. We care about what you've shipped and the judgment behind it. HOW WE'LL EVALUATE We'll look closely at work you personally identified, built, and shipped, and what you learned after launch. Come ready to walk us through a time you saw a problem no one owned, decided to fix it, and drove it to a measurable outcome. Expect a practical product and engineering exercise, not pure algorithm puzzles. Fireworks AI is an equal opportunity employer. We encourage you to apply even if you don't meet every qualification. WHY FIREWORKS?
- Solve Hard Problems: Tackle challenges at the forefront of AI infrastructure, from low-latency inference to scalable model serving.
