Hermeus is a venture-backed defense aviation company reclaiming the lost art of rapid iterative prototyping to build the fastest aircraft in the world today. By prioritizing relentless hardware iteration, we deliver high-speed systems at the pace of the modern battlefield. We work with the Department of War to provide the high-speed capabilities our nation and its allies need to maintain a durable, asymmetric advantage.

About the Team:
The Mission Systems Engineering Team develops and integrates the hardware and software that enable Hermeus aircraft to execute missions. As a Mission Systems Engineering Intern, you will work across avionics, software, communications, and system integration to help build, test, and troubleshoot mission capabilities. This role is ideal for someone with a strong mix of hands-on hardware experience and software development skills.

Spring: Around 16 weeks (January - April) Summer: Around 12 weeks (May - August)

Support integration and testing of mission hardware, software, sensors, radios, processors, and avionics systems.

Develop and test software for command and control, telemetry, and subsystem interfaces.

Perform hardware/software bring-up, debugging, and troubleshooting in lab, HIL, ground-test, and aircraft environments.

Support system interfaces, networking, communication protocols, and integration requirements.

Collaborate with software, avionics, autonomy, communications, and flight-test teams.

Document test results, technical findings, and system configurations.

Currently pursuing a degree in Computer Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Computer Science, Aerospace Engineering, Software Engineering, or a related field.

Hands-on experience with both software development and hardware integration through internships, coursework, research, projects, or competition teams.

Familiarity with networking TCP/UDP, Ethernet

Programming experience in C++, Python, or a similar language.

Experience working with embedded systems, electronics, avionics, sensors, networking, or other hardware-connected systems.

Strong debugging and problem-solving skills across hardware and software interfaces.

Demonstrated ability to work effectively on multidisciplinary technical teams.

GPA of 3.0 or above

Familiarity with communication protocols such as CAN, RS-422, or ARINC.

Experience with electrical schematics, wiring, electronics bring-up, or test equipment.

Exposure to HIL/SIL, robotics, UAVs, aerospace, defense, Formula SAE, rocketry, or similar hands-on projects.
