Oracle My SQL Database Architect

This position is listed on behalf of a partner company, who manages all applications and next steps. Our partner is looking for an Oracle MySQL Database Architect based in the United States. This is a long-term opportunity for a hands-on database architecture professional responsible for designing, optimizing, and supporting mission-critical MySQL environments. You will play a key role in building scalable database architectures while ensuring strong performance, reliability, availability, and security across production systems. The position combines architecture with practical database administration, including installations, upgrades, migrations, troubleshooting, and performance optimization. You will collaborate closely with development and infrastructure teams to establish effective database designs, operational standards, and best practices. A significant focus will be placed on high availability, replication, backup and recovery, and disaster recovery strategies. You will also monitor database health and capacity while proactively identifying opportunities to improve stability and efficiency. This role is well suited to an experienced database specialist who enjoys solving complex production challenges and working hands-on with critical data infrastructure.

Design, implement, and maintain scalable MySQL database architectures that support reliable, high-performing production environments. Provide hands-on expertise across MySQL installation, configuration, upgrades, migrations, and ongoing database lifecycle management. Analyze and optimize database performance through query tuning, indexing strategies, configuration improvements, and proactive troubleshooting. Design, implement, and manage high-availability, replication, backup, recovery, and disaster recovery solutions to maintain business continuity. Monitor database health, capacity, availability, security, and overall operational performance, identifying and addressing potential issues proactively. Troubleshoot complex production database incidents, determine root causes, and implement sustainable solutions to prevent recurring issues. Collaborate with application development and infrastructure teams on database architecture, schema design, performance considerations, and operational best practices. Support database migration and upgrade initiatives, ensuring changes are carefully planned, tested, and executed with minimal disruption. Establish and maintain database standards, procedures, and best practices covering performance, reliability, security, backup, and operational management. Requirements: Bring 8+ years of professional experience in MySQL database administration, architecture, or closely related database engineering roles. Demonstrate strong hands-on expertise with MySQL, SQL, database indexing, query optimization, performance tuning, and production troubleshooting. Have practical experience with MySQL replication, InnoDB, high-availability architectures, disaster recovery, backup, and recovery strategies. Demonstrate experience delivering database migration, upgrade, and modernization projects within production environments. Possess a strong understanding of Linux/Unix operating systems and their role in supporting database infrastructure. Have experience diagnosing complex database performance and availability issues and translating technical findings into effective solutions. Demonstrate strong analytical and problem-solving abilities, with a structured approach to troubleshooting and root-cause analysis. Be comfortable working collaboratively with development, infrastructure, and other technical teams while communicating clearly with both technical and non-technical stakeholders.
