Key Responsibilities:
- Product Strategy and Vision
- Define and communicate the product vision, objectives, and desired outcomes in alignment with business requirements and/or mission.
- Develop and maintain the product strategy and roadmap to guide the direction and evolution of the product.
- Identify opportunities where products can address user needs, business/organisational challenges, or strategic objectives.
- Define and monitor success metrics to evaluate whether the product is achieving its intended outcomes.
- User and Problem Discovery
- Engage users and stakeholders to understand their needs, pain points, workflows, and desired outcomes.
- Conduct or facilitate user research, interviews, feedback sessions, and other discovery activities to identify and validate problems worth solving.
- Validate assumptions and proposed solutions with users before and during product development.
- Product Prioritisation and Roadmap Management
- Assess and prioritise product opportunities, requirements, features, and improvements based on user value, organisational impact, strategic alignment, risk, and implementation effort.
- Develop, maintain, and communicate the product roadmap based on agreed priorities and desired outcomes.
- Make product-level trade-offs when balancing competing user needs, stakeholder priorities, technical constraints, and available resources (e.g. time, money, and manpower.
- Cross-functional Collaboration and Stakeholder Management
- Collaborate with engineering, design, business, operations, security, and other relevant teams throughout the product lifecycle.
- Provide sufficient context and clarity to engineering and design teams on the problems to be solved and intended outcomes.
- Communicate product direction, roadmap, progress, decisions, and trade-offs clearly to relevant stakeholders.
- Facilitate alignment between user needs, organisational objectives, and technical considerations when making product decisions.
- Product Delivery
- Work closely with engineering and design teams throughout product development to clarify requirements, identify risks early, and make timely product decisions.
- Review product increments and provide product-level feedback to ensure delivered capabilities address intended user needs and outcomes.
- Coordinate with relevant stakeholders to support product launches, user onboarding, communications, and adoption.
- Identify and address product-related risks, dependencies, and issues that may affect successful delivery or adoption.
- Product Performance and Continuous Improvement
- Define and monitor appropriate product metrics, including measures of user adoption, engagement, satisfaction, and product outcomes.
- Analyse product usage, user feedback, and other relevant data to assess product performance.
- Identify opportunities to improve the product based on evidence and learning form users.
- Incorporate insights and lessons learned into subsequent product priorities and roadmap decisions.
- Product Lifecycle Management
- Manage the product across its lifecycle, from discovery and development through operation, enhancement, and eventual retirement.
- Periodically assess whether the product continues to meet user needs and organisational objectives.
- Recommend whether products or capabilities should be enhanced, maintained, consolidated, replaced, or retired.
- Ensure appropriate transition and communication plans are established when significant product changes or retirement decisions are made.
Requirements
- Product Management
- Good understanding of product management principles and practices, including product discovery, product strategy, roadmapping, prioritisation, delivery, and lifecycle management.
- Ability to identify and frame user problems and translate them into clear product opportunities and requirements.
- Familiarity with product prioritisation techniques and the ability to make evidence-based trade-offs between competing priorities.
- Ability to define product outcomes and appropriate metrics for measuring product success.
- User Research and Analytical Skills
- Ability to conduct or facilitate user research and gather meaningful insights through interviews, whiteboarding sessions, feedback, and other discovery methods.
- Ability to synthesise qualitative and quantitative information to identify user needs, patterns, and opportunities.
- Ability to use product data, user feedback, and other evidence to support product decisions and prioritisation.
- Strong problem-solving and critical-thinking skills, with the ability to distinguish underlying problems and proposed solutions.
- Communication and Stakeholder Management
- Strong written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to communicate product concepts, priorities, and decisions clearly to technical and non-technical audiences.
- Ability to engage and manage stakeholders with differing needs, priorities, and perspectives.
- Ability to facilitate discussions and build alignment across multidisciplinary teams.
- Ability to communicate and justify product trade-offs and prioritisation decisions using evidence and clear rationale.
- Technical and Cyber Knowledge
- Sufficient technical understanding to work effectively with engineering teams and participate in discussions concerning system capabilities, constraints, dependencies, and technical trade-offs.
- Familiarity with modern software development practices and the software development lifecycle.
- Familiarity with Agile delivery and product management tools such as Jira and Confluence.
- Awareness of cybersecurity and governance considerations relevant to digital products.
- Ability to understand technical concepts and communicate their product and user implications to non-technical stakeholders.
