As a Senior Construction Manager, you will oversee complex construction and maintenance projects involving critical transmission, distribution, and substation infrastructure. You will ensure that all field operations are delivered safely, efficiently, and in compliance with engineering specifications, regulatory requirements, and industry standards. Working closely with project managers, contractors, engineers, and environmental and commissioning teams, you will coordinate resources, manage schedules and budgets, and resolve field challenges. You will play a key role in maintaining high standards of safety, quality, and operational performance throughout the project lifecycle. This position offers the opportunity to lead high-impact infrastructure initiatives that strengthen community resilience and support essential services. You will also mentor construction professionals, oversee complex projects, and contribute to continuous improvement across construction and maintenance operations. The role is remote within the United States, with on-site presence, extended hours, and on-call support required as project needs dictate.
Lead and oversee construction and maintenance activities at transmission, distribution, and substation facilities, ensuring compliance with approved project documentation, engineering practices, applicable laws, and industry standards. Champion a strong safety culture by establishing clear expectations, reviewing Job Hazard Analyses, addressing field safety concerns, promoting safe work methods, and participating in incident investigations when required. Coordinate internal teams, external contractors, vendors, and other project stakeholders to ensure construction activities are properly resourced and executed according to project requirements. Monitor project schedules, budgets, costs, materials, procurement activities, and construction progress, promptly identifying and escalating deviations that could affect delivery. Review design documents, construction plans, specifications, and material requirements to verify constructability, schedule alignment, and readiness for field execution. Conduct regular site visits and field inspections to verify that contractor activities comply with approved plans, quality requirements, safety standards, and contractual obligations. Prepare daily progress reports, construction briefings, status updates, cost analyses, and risk assessments, keeping project management and relevant stakeholders informed of potential issues and impacts. Coordinate material deliveries, equipment requirements, contractor resources, switching instructions, and other operational activities necessary to maintain construction progress. Collaborate with environmental compliance and permitting teams, stakeholder engagement specialists, testing and commissioning managers, and commissioning engineers to ensure regulatory obligations and project commitments are fulfilled. Review and approve contractor timesheets, invoices, change orders, time-and-materials documentation, drill logs, and other construction records in accordance with project procedures. Lead construction status meetings, resolve scope and field issues, oversee quality assurance and quality control activities, and support customer meetings and project updates as needed. Manage project reconciliation and closeout activities, ensuring accurate documentation and completion of outstanding requirements. Provide technical guidance and mentorship to other Construction Managers and team members, direct vendor construction representatives, and oversee less experienced managers on complex assignments when required. Support emergency response and storm-related activities, provide appropriate site escorts for non-qualified personnel, and maintain the required eligibility to hold control-center clearance for this position. Requirements: Bachelor's degree in a construction-related discipline or equivalent relevant professional experience in construction. At least 15 years of experience in field construction, with substantial knowledge of construction management processes, methods, and industry best practices. Experience managing large-scale civil, structural, industrial, transmission, distribution, or substation construction projects is highly desirable. Strong understanding of construction safety, quality assurance and quality control, environmental compliance, permitting, project documentation, and applicable regulatory requirements. Proven ability to manage contractors, coordinate multidisciplinary teams, oversee field operations, and deliver projects in line with scope, schedule, budget, and technical specifications. Demonstrated managerial and leadership capabilities, including sound judgment, effective problem-solving, conflict resolution, and the ability to manage complex construction challenges. Strong written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to prepare accurate reports, lead meetings, communicate with customers, and coordinate effectively with internal and external stakeholders. Experience reviewing construction drawings, evaluating constructability, managing procurement and materials, assessing change orders, and monitoring project costs and schedules. Commitment to maintaining high safety and quality standards, promoting continuous improvement, and fostering a collaborative and accountable working environment. Flexibility to work extended hours during critical construction phases, participate in on-call rotations, and provide on-site support as project requirements dictate. Ability to meet the position's control-center clearance requirements. No security clearance is specified as a general prerequisite; however, eligibility to hold the clearance required for control-center access is necessary. Benefits: Competitive annual salary: $134,100–$241,400, depending on qualifications, experience, and other applicable factors. Comprehensive healthcare coverage: Medical, dental, and vision insurance. Retirement and financial benefits: 401(k) retirement plan and Employee Stock Ownership Plan (ESOP).
