Full job description
N-iX is looking for a Senior Node.js Engineer to join a long-term project for a leading Canadian fintech company specializing in online brokerage and wealth management. Our client provides retail investors with trading platforms, mobile applications, and investment products in a regulated financial environment. You will join a product pod within the Experience Platform engineering group, where teams own their domains end to end across web, mobile, and backend services. The expanding Ukrainian team will consist of two product pods of four developers each, supported by a Team Lead and a Senior QA Engineer. This role focuses on Node.js and TypeScript, with contributions to React and React Native features. You will influence architectural decisions, lead technical initiatives, and help build reliable, scalable financial products. Responsibilities: Design and develop Node.js/TypeScript services and RESTful APIs within a microservices or service-oriented architecture. Lead the technical design and delivery of complex features, documenting architectural decisions and trade-offs. Build and maintain web and mobile features using React and React Native. Work with product partners to break down complex, ambiguous problems into manageable delivery increments. Own performance and scalability within your domain: identify bottlenecks, optimize database queries, and improve services under production load. Set and uphold engineering standards for code quality, testing, security, observability, and operational readiness. Mentor developers through code reviews and pair programming. Collaborate with Product, UX, Enterprise Architecture, and Security teams to deliver resilient, scalable, and compliant solutions. Participate in incident response and on-call rotations, and follow through on actions from blameless post-incident reviews. Explore and adopt AI tools that improve developer productivity. Requirements: 6+ years of software engineering experience, including 5+ years with Node.js and TypeScript. 1+ year of commercial experience with React and/or React Native. Experience designing RESTful APIs and working with microservices or service-oriented architectures. Hands-on experience with relational and/or NoSQL databases, including query performance tuning. Experience with cloud platforms; GCP is preferred, while AWS or Azure experience is also welcome. Practical experience with CI/CD tooling and containerized workloads. Experience leading technical initiatives involving multiple developers, without relying on formal management authority. Strong communication skills and the ability to explain technical trade-offs to engineering and cross-functional audiences. English proficiency sufficient for effective collaboration with an international team. A degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, or a related field, or equivalent practical experience. Nice to have: Experience in financial services, brokerage, trading, or other regulated environments. Experience with WebSockets, Apache Kafka, or Google Pub/Sub, particularly for real-time streaming and low-latency systems. Knowledge of Kubernetes, Terraform, or other infrastructure-as-code tools. Knowledge of secure development practices, threat modeling, or DevSecOps. Experience building AI/ML-enabled features. Experience with Claude Code or other AI-assisted development tools. Experience with Angular.
