Full job description

This position is listed on behalf of a partner company, who manages all applications and next steps. Our partner is looking for a Senior Software Engineer - Card Network Integration based in Canada. This is a senior engineering opportunity focused on building scalable systems that power card network transactions and financial data processing. You will design and deliver backend solutions supporting high-volume batch and event-driven workflows across critical payment operations. Your work will contribute to areas including digital wallet tokenization, chargebacks, ACH transfers, ATM networks, credit processing, and 3DS authentication. You will own complex projects from architecture and design through production, working with considerable autonomy on ambiguous technical challenges. The role combines software engineering, data engineering, cloud infrastructure, and operational excellence in a highly collaborative environment. You will partner closely with engineers and product leaders while helping improve reliability, scalability, and speed of delivery. This is an opportunity to make a direct impact on payment infrastructure used at significant scale while mentoring other engineers and helping shape technical direction.

Design, architect, develop, and maintain scalable backend systems supporting card network transactions, settlement, and financial data processing. Build and operate batch and event-driven data pipelines capable of processing high-volume transaction and card network data. Develop solutions for digital wallet tokenization through platforms such as Apple Pay and Google Pay. Build and improve systems supporting chargebacks, disputes, ACH transfers, ATM networks, credit processing, and 3DS access control. Deliver complex engineering projects from ideation through production while making thoughtful technical trade-offs and navigating ambiguous requirements. Design reliable data lake solutions and distributed processing systems with strong data quality, schema integrity, and scalability. Collaborate with engineers, Product Managers, and cross-functional stakeholders to scope, prioritize, estimate, and deliver new capabilities. Contribute to DevOps and infrastructure initiatives, particularly around scalability, resilience, cloud infrastructure, and global availability. Diagnose production incidents, identify root causes, participate in on-call coverage, and implement improvements that strengthen system reliability. Mentor other engineers and contribute to a culture of high-quality code, strong testing practices, continuous learning, and collaborative problem-solving. Requirements 5+ years of professional experience in software or data engineering, ideally within payments, financial services, or another high-volume processing environment. Strong software development experience with Java and/or Python, with the ability to learn and work effectively with additional programming languages. Proven experience designing, building, and scaling batch and streaming or event-driven data pipelines using technologies such as Apache Spark, Athena, Trino, or Presto. Hands-on experience building robust data lake solutions using technologies or formats such as Apache Iceberg or Delta Lake, with a strong understanding of data reliability and schema management. Experience with distributed systems, scalable architectures, and microservices, along with the ability to evaluate technical trade-offs and solve complex engineering problems. Experience with modern cloud environments and production engineering practices; AWS experience is particularly valuable. Familiarity with CI/CD, Kubernetes, Docker, software deployment, and orchestration systems. Strong debugging and incident-resolution skills, including the ability to quickly identify root causes and implement sustainable improvements. Experience with Java Spring Boot and Airflow is an advantage. Strong communication and collaboration skills, with the ability to work effectively across engineering, product, and other teams. Demonstrated ability to mentor colleagues, share knowledge, receive constructive feedback, and contribute to a supportive team environment. A strong commitment to writing clean, maintainable, well-tested code and continuously improving engineering practices. Contributions to technical blogs, GitHub repositories, or open-source projects are considered a plus. Benefits Competitive base salary of CAD $116,000–$145,000 , calibrated according to location, skills, experience, and other relevant factors. Annual bonus opportunities recognizing individual performance and overall organizational success. Multiple health insurance options. Flexible vacation time plus additional floating holidays. Retirement savings program with company contributions. Equity in a publicly traded company. Monthly stipend to support remote work. Annual professional development stipend supporting learning and career growth. Family-forming benefits and generous parental leave with base salary top-up. Flexible-first remote working environment available within Canada, including Ontario and British Columbia.
