Amazon MQ is a managed AWS service for Apache ActiveMQ and RabbitMQ that streamlines setup, operation, and management of message brokers on AWS. Every day we make it easier for developers to build applications that use the rich features and power of open-source message brokers. We partner with the maintainers of the RabbitMQ and Apache ActiveMQ open source projects to continually evolve and improve the projects with new features and optimizations.

The Amazon MQ RabbitMQ team in Seattle is seeking a seasoned engineering leader who brings a unique blend of open-source software expertise and cloud computing acumen. The ideal candidate will have a proven track record of building and nurturing developer communities while delivering mission-critical services at scale. We're looking for someone who can navigate the intersection of open-source collaboration and enterprise-grade service delivery, bringing both worlds together to create exceptional customer experiences. As a leader in our organization, you'll need to demonstrate pragmatic decision-making and thrive in a dynamic, fast-paced environment. Your role will involve empowering and mentoring world-class engineers, fostering a culture of technical excellence, and driving continuous improvement in both software quality and operational efficiency. This position offers the unique opportunity to shape the future of cloud messaging while contributing to the broader open-source ecosystem.

Basic Qualifications

  • 3+ years of engineering team management experience
  • 7+ years of engineering experience
  • 8+ years of leading the definition and development of multi tier web services experience
  • 1+ years of providing technical leadership and project management for all aspects of the software development lifecycle experience
  • 1+ years of developing large-scale, multi-tiered distributed software systems using Java, C#, or C++ experience
  • 1+ years of developing large-scale, multi-tiered distributed software systems using service-oriented architecture experience
  • 1+ years of developing large-scale, multi-tiered distributed software systems using distributed programming experience
  • 5+ years of Software Engineer, Software Developer, or related occupational experience
  • Bachelor's degree or foreign equivalent in Computer Science, Engineering, Mathematics, or a related field
  • Knowledge of engineering practices and patterns for the full software/hardware/networks development life cycle, including coding standards, code reviews, source control management, build processes, testing, certification, and livesite operations
  • Experience partnering with product or program management teams

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience in communicating with users, other technical teams, and senior leadership to collect requirements, describe software product features, technical designs, and product strategy
  • Experience in recruiting, hiring, mentoring/coaching and managing teams of Software Engineers to improve their skills, and make them more effective, product software engineers

The base salary range for this position is listed below. Your Amazon package will include sign-on payments and restricted stock units (RSUs). Final compensation will be determined based on factors including experience, qualifications, and location. Amazon also offers comprehensive benefits including health insurance (medical, dental, vision, prescription, Basic Life & AD&D insurance and option for Supplemental life plans, EAP, Mental Health Support, Medical Advice Line, Flexible Spending Accounts, Adoption and Surrogacy Reimbursement coverage), 401(k) matching, paid time off, and parental leave.
