The U.S.-Middle East Partnership Initiative (MEPI) Tomorrow’s Leaders Program is a prestigious undergraduate scholarship and leadership development initiative sponsored by the U.S. Department of State. Administered by FHI 360, it targets meritorious students from the Middle East and North Africa (MENA) region who demonstrate strong academic potential, maturity, flexibility, and a commitment to becoming future leaders and decision-makers.
Which Fields are Eligible?:
Specific undergraduate majors available at partner universities.
American University of Beirut (AUB): Agribusiness, Biology, Business Administration, Chemistry, Computer Science, Data Science, Earth Sciences, Economics, Food Science and Management, Mathematics or Applied Mathematics.
Lebanese American University (LAU): Bioinformatics, Biology, Business (Accounting, Banking & Finance, Family & Entrepreneurial Business, International Business, Information Technology Management, Management, Marketing), Chemistry, Computer Science, Economics, Graphic Design, Mathematics, and more. (Note: Medical school is not an eligible program of study).

Who can Apply?:
Citizens or legal permanent residents originating from eligible countries/territories: Algeria, Egypt, Iraq, Jordan, Lebanon, Libya, Morocco, Syria, Tunisia, West Bank or Palestinian students residing in a third country with legal residency, and Yemen (U.S. citizens/legal permanent residents are ineligible).
Current high school seniors graduating in 2027, or recent high school graduates from 2026 (plus 2025 graduates specifically from Iraq, Libya, Syria, Yemen, and the West Bank/Palestinian students in third countries).
Candidates with strong academic credentials (generally an 80% average or better) and proficiency in written and spoken English.
How are Applicants Selected?:
Applicants are evaluated based on academic history, extracurricular/volunteer activities, leadership potential, an initial online English assessment (ASU), and a rigorous interview phase in January 2027 with FHI 360 staff, U.S. Embassy staff, and alumni. Shortlisted finalists will also complete standardized testing (TOEFL/IELTS and SAT where required).

MENA Region: Algeria, Egypt, Iraq, Jordan, Lebanon, Libya, Morocco, Syria, Tunisia, Yemen, and West Bank/Palestinian students residing in a third country.

The American University of Beirut (AUB) in Lebanon or the Lebanese American University (LAU) in Lebanon (with opportunities for a semester abroad in the United States).
How Many Awards?:
Cohort capacity varies annually per application cycle.

Tuition and enrollment fees for up to four academic years.
University health insurance, entrance visa, and residency permit fees.
Student housing and a monthly living stipend during program activities.
Textbook allowance and a laptop for the duration of the program.
Two round-trip travel tickets between home country and the university per year.
Career-oriented workshops, internships, faculty mentorship, and an opportunity to study for a semester in the United States.
How Long Will the Award Last?:
Up to four academic years for undergraduate studies, subject to maintaining a cumulative GPA of at least 3.0.
How to Apply:
Complete the online application on the official Tomorrow’s Leaders portal by November 18, 2026 , including uploading academic transcripts for grades 10 and 11 (and 12 when available), extracurricular records, and taking the online ASU English assessment.
Provide email addresses for two recommenders (at least one academic) to submit online recommendations.
If shortlisted in January 2027, complete interviews and submit official TOEFL/IELTS scores by March 8, 2027 (and SAT scores if required by March 26, 2027).
