The British Academy Opportunities

The fellowship supports an independent research project leading toward significant publishable work while helping the award holder build research and teaching experience. The award is tenable for three years from autumn 2027 at an eligible UK institution. The Academy currently funds 80% of salary costs plus directly allocated and indirect costs under Full Economic Costing.

Applicants must work in the humanities or social sciences and be based at an eligible UK university or recognised research organisation for the fellowship. British citizens and EEA nationals are eligible regardless of doctorate location; applicants of any nationality with a doctorate from a UK university are also eligible. Other applicants may qualify through a strong prior association with the UK academic community. The expected viva-completion window is 1 April 2024 to 1 April 2027, and applicants must not have held a permanent academic post in higher education, subject to the scheme's stated exemptions.
