Opportunities from Research Grants Council, University Grants Committee Hong Kong

The Research Grants Council will award 400 HKPFS fellowships for the 2027/28 academic year. Each fellowship provides an annual stipend of HK$344,400 and a conference and research-related travel allowance of HK$14,400 per year for three years. Applicants first submit an HKPFS initial application and then apply separately for PhD admission to their selected university programme(s). Applicants may choose up to two programmes across one or two universities.

Open irrespective of country of origin, prior work experience or ethnic background to applicants seeking admission as new full-time PhD students at eligible Hong Kong universities. Selection considers academic excellence, research ability and potential, communication and interpersonal skills, and leadership. Applicants must also meet the admission requirements of the selected university and PhD programme.
