Are you a hands-on leader who thrives on building strong teams and delivering operational excellence? Amazon is looking for a Manager I, Data Center Operations to lead a team of technicians responsible for the day-to-day performance of our critical infrastructure. In this role, you will directly supervise front-line team members, prioritize work across shifting demands, and drive continuous improvement in how we maintain and operate our facilities. Your leadership will have a tangible impact on the reliability and availability that millions of customers depend on every day.

Key job responsibilities

  • Lead, coach, and develop a team of data center technicians, including onboarding new hires, conducting regular one-on-one conversations, setting development goals, and providing actionable performance feedback.
  • Manage daily facility operations by auditing work queues, monitoring service level agreement adherence, troubleshooting issues, and ensuring safe, efficient completion of maintenance tasks.
  • Prioritize and assign work across routine operations, capacity projects, and emergency response, making real-time trade-off decisions between time and resources to meet operational targets.
  • Identify and recommend improvements to tools, processes, and procedures that raise quality standards and reduce operational risk, partnering with cross-functional teams to implement solutions.
  • Attract, hire, and retain bar-raising talent while maintaining an inclusive team environment where every member feels valued, informed, and connected to the team's mission.

A day in the life Your morning may begin with a shift handoff, reviewing overnight tickets and aligning your team on the priorities ahead. You will walk the data center floor, checking equipment health and verifying that safety protocols are followed. Throughout the shift you will coach technicians through troubleshooting scenarios, approve maintenance procedures, and escalate issues that need broader support. Between operational tasks you will hold one-on-ones, update capacity trackers, and collaborate with partner teams on upcoming projects.

Basic Qualifications

  • 2+ years of operations and on-call support for data center facilities, mission critical plants, or production facilities experience
  • 4+ years of Information Technology (IT) experience, or Bachelor's degree in computer science, engineering, mathematics or equivalent
  • 2+ years of people management experience

Preferred Qualifications

  • 2+ years of computer hardware troubleshooting and repair experience, or experience with computer hardware troubleshooting and repair
  • Experience with technical writing, or experience with project management
  • certification in an applicable field like A+, Net+, Sec+, CCNA, LPIC, Linux+, AWS certification, or A+ or CND (Certified Network Defender) or Network+ or Security+

The base salary range for this position is listed below. Your Amazon package will include sign-on payments and restricted stock units (RSUs). Final compensation will be determined based on factors including experience, qualifications, and location.
