We are seeking an experienced Climate Change Team Leader to drive climate action across Brazil’s healthcare sector and advance the transition toward environmentally sustainable healthcare systems. In this leadership role, you will develop and implement strategies to reduce greenhouse gas emissions, strengthen climate resilience, and promote environmental responsibility across healthcare organizations. You will lead a dynamic team, build strategic partnerships, and engage with government institutions, healthcare networks, and international stakeholders to influence climate and health policies. Working at the intersection of public health, environmental sustainability, and policy advocacy, you will help align healthcare systems with the goals of the Paris Agreement. You will also support member organizations in adopting measurable decarbonization initiatives, improving energy efficiency, and expanding renewable energy use. This fully remote opportunity is ideal for a collaborative leader passionate about climate policy, organizational development, and creating lasting environmental and public health impact.

Leadership and team management Lead and manage a small, dynamic team responsible for advancing climate initiatives across Brazil’s healthcare sector. Develop annual strategies, objectives, and work plans in collaboration with organizational leadership and the board. Drive organizational growth, strengthen member engagement, and increase participation in climate, energy, procurement, and waste management initiatives. Oversee the implementation of climate strategies and related programs, ensuring alignment with international priorities and organizational objectives. Manage budgets, work plans, resource allocation, donor reporting, and program implementation to ensure operational effectiveness and financial accountability. Supervise administrative support and contribute to financial management and audit processes in coordination with the relevant board representatives. Climate policy and advocacy Lead efforts to integrate healthcare priorities into Brazilian climate policies and incorporate climate considerations into public health strategies. Collaborate with international partners to develop coordinated policy frameworks that can be implemented and scaled across Brazilian states. Engage with state and local governments, healthcare networks, climate organizations, and relevant international institutions to accelerate climate action in healthcare. Advocate for the inclusion of healthcare sector contributions in Brazil’s Nationally Determined Contributions (NDCs) under the Paris Agreement. Lead the development of a national action plan to align healthcare systems with the Paris Agreement’s ambitions, including the transition toward net-zero emissions by 2050. Promote healthcare decarbonization through energy efficiency, renewable energy generation, and other emissions-reduction measures. Membership engagement and coordination Build and maintain strong relationships with member organizations, encouraging active participation in climate action programs and collaborative initiatives. Communicate program activities, achievements, milestones, and progress to members through consistent and effective engagement. Provide strategic guidance and technical assistance to healthcare organizations on greenhouse gas inventories, emissions measurement, and climate-related tools. Identify opportunities to expand membership, strengthen collaborative initiatives, and increase participation in environmental sustainability programs. Promote the international visibility of successful initiatives and facilitate the sharing of best practices across global healthcare networks. Coordinate with international climate and health teams to ensure local initiatives contribute to broader global strategies. Representation and strategic partnerships Represent the organization in meetings with strategic partners, government institutions, healthcare stakeholders, donors, and other relevant organizations. Develop and strengthen alliances with stakeholders working in climate change, environmental sustainability, and public health. Organize and participate in public events, conferences, and collaborative initiatives that advance climate and health priorities. Support international cooperation and knowledge exchange to accelerate the adoption of sustainable healthcare practices across Brazil. Requirements: Demonstrated leadership and management experience, including at least 3 years of experience leading small, dynamic teams. Expertise in climate change, environmental health, or a closely related field, with a strong understanding of the relationship between climate change and public health. In-depth knowledge of climate policy, current climate negotiations, mitigation strategies, Nationally Determined Contributions (NDCs), and climate initiatives at the national and local levels in Brazil. Knowledge of greenhouse gas emissions accounting methodologies, emissions inventories, and practical approaches to measuring and reducing organizational carbon footprints. Experience working with or within the healthcare sector, ideally involving environmental sustainability, climate resilience, or healthcare decarbonization initiatives. Proven ability to engage stakeholders, facilitate participatory decision-making, resolve complex problems creatively, and motivate teams toward shared objectives. Strong negotiation, communication, and relationship-building skills, with the ability to influence internal and external stakeholders, including government representatives and senior leaders. Experience in strategic planning, budget development, financial oversight, and monitoring program implementation. Experience organizing public events, conferences, stakeholder meetings, or multi-organization initiatives. Fluency in both Portuguese and English is required. Spanish proficiency is considered an advantage. Strong emotional intelligence, with the ability to give and receive feedback proactively and foster constructive working relationships. Ability to collaborate effectively within decentralized, international teams and coordinate activities across different time zones. Excellent organizational and project management skills, including the ability to prioritize competing demands, manage multiple projects simultaneously, and address issues promptly. Willingness and ability to travel nationally and internationally and occasionally work outside standard business hours to accommodate international meetings. A proactive, mission-driven approach, with a strong commitment to climate action, environmental justice, and sustainable healthcare systems. Benefits: Competitive compensation: Salary package commensurate with experience and qualifications. Fully remote work: Home-based position for candidates located in São Paulo or Rio de Janeiro; other nearby locations may be considered. Professional growth: Opportunities to expand leadership expertise and contribute to the development of climate and health initiatives across Brazil. Meaningful environmental impact: Direct involvement in reducing healthcare-related emissions, strengthening climate resilience, and advancing sustainable healthcare practices. International collaboration: Work with global climate and health networks, government stakeholders, healthcare organizations, and international partners. Strategic leadership opportunities: Influence organizational strategy, public policy, and sector-wide climate initiatives.
